New Business/Attractions In The Derby Area:
A new distribution business center which will be called the home of Derby’s Aircraft & Commercial Enterprises will be calling its new home. The new facility was $1.8 million project and has a lot more space to offer than the last building that it called home had. The company upgraded their 6,500 square foot facility to this new facility that offers over 15,000 square feet of space. The company moved over a weekend in March and only had to close operations for one day to do so. The move has gone smoothly and the company is now ready to serve as the distributor of parts to consumers in the area.
Ulta Salon Beauty is interested in opening a new 10,012 square foot store in the Derby area and Derby’s Planning Commission is reviewing the plans later this week to allow Ulta to purchase the empty lot which sits just north of PetCo and south of Target. The Derby Marketplace has already had several improvements made to the area, and Ulta if Ulta’s plans are approved they will mark the next phase of the development of this area. This location would also join 3 other Ulta locations in the Greater Wichita Area. Ulta sells a variety of skincare products, hair care items, perfumes, and men’s fragrances to its consumers.
The El Paso Animal Clinic will be moving to a new location to open for business in Derby in their soon-to-be new state-of-the-art facility which is planned to be located just north of the 800 block of Buckner. The new facility is 3.5 times the size of their old facility and offers a wide array of top-notch services to pet owners in the local community. The new facility is slated to be about 9,000 square feet in size compared to the 2,500 square foot facility they currently have and already have outgrown.
Transportation Options in Derby:
Derby is serviced by the Derby Dash Public Transportation system which services the entire viewing Derby area. The Derby Dash Public Transportation company runs busses steadily throughout the city from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Riders must register for their ride a minimum of 24 hours ahead of time by calling 788-RIDE (7433). A one-way ride between locations is $2 and a round trip is $4. Rider cards are purchased in increments of $4 with $10 and $20 cards available for purchase at both the Senior Center and City Hall.
Recreation & Local Attractions:
Derby is home to many public city parks which are all city-owned and maintained. The city’s parks and recreation center is responsible for maintaining 366 acres of land at 32 various locations. This maintenance includes a variety of playgrounds and sports facilities as well as other equipment that is available for citizens to use.
Derby has also been recognized as Tree City USA for 23 consecutive years. This is an award that is supported by the National Arbor Day Foundation and is held in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
